Rifugio Guide di Frachey
An authentic mountain refuge in the heart of Val d’Ayas, where the mountain experience meets simple, genuine hospitality surrounded by nature. An ideal place to slow down, breathe deeply, and experience the valley from a true perspective.
The refuge, the valley, the experience
A place born from the valley
Rifugio Guide di Frachey stands in a place deeply rooted in the history of Val d’Ayas. In Résy, at the entrance to the Bettaforca valley, the refuge is not only a welcoming stop and starting point for hikes, but also a place that preserves the bond between landscape, walking, and alpine memory.
Founded in the first half of the 1980s by Oliviero Frachey, known as “Cirin”, it carries forward an idea of the mountains shaped by authenticity, simplicity, experience, and a deep connection to the land.
The legacy of the Frachey Guides
The name Frachey recalls one of the historic guide families of Ayas, active long before the valley’s guides came together in the local guide society. This tradition also includes Oliviero Frachey, remembered among the first climbers to reach Punta Margherita in the Ruwenzori in 1958.
Local alpine history also remembers the 1952 ascent of the north face of Roccia Nera, completed by Ernesto and Oliviero Frachey together with Francesco Cetti Serbelloni. Staying here means coming into contact with this heritage: not just a refuge, but a story of family, mountain guides, and alpinism.
